Opportunities and existing challenges of start-ups by people with refugee experiences

For people who have fled and come from third countries, self-employment is a path to economic and social participation and independence. Much is known about the motivations behind start-up support projects: for some, starting a business is a continuation of self-employment that they had to give up when they left their country of origin. For others, it is a means of profitably using their training and professional experience, as their qualifications are not recognized in the field of employment subject to social insurance contributions.

LOK.a.Motion GmbH is with the project neustart22 for the sixth year in a row, we have been supporting people with refugee experiences and people from third countries in setting up their own businesses. Together with our partners from Berlin and the federal government and an interested professional public, we want to exchange information about the opportunities and existing challenges of people with refugee experiences and people from third countries setting up their own businesses.

The focus will be on existing obstacles such as the priority given to jobs subject to social insurance contributions, but also on helpful measures such as the special support of women and the financing of start-up projects through the Berlin Guarantee Fund (BBBwelcome). Representatives from consulting practice as well as politics and administration will be guests.

You will also get to know exciting entrepreneurs and founders who came to Germany as refugees.

The welcoming address will be given by Stephan Schwarz, Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Enterprises of the State of Berlin. The event programme can here can be downloaded. Free refreshments will be provided.
